Storage FAQ's
What is self-storage?
Self-storage is a simple storage solution. You only pay for what you need. It’s safe, secure, clean and flexible. If you’re moving home, need extra storage space or running a growing business, we have a range of units from 25 to 425 sq ft.
Who can use self-storage?
Anybody and everybody. Most people need extra storage at some time – whether you want to store archive material or Christmas decorations, we’ll have a unit to suit your needs.
How safe will my goods be?
We’ve invested in the latest security technology. Our sites have Redcare alarm systems and 24-hour video CCTV.
Who holds a key to my unit?
You’re the sole keyholder to your unit. If you want to nominate another authorised representative, we can hold another key on your file.
What about locks?
You can bring your own padlock for your unit; alternatively you can buy one from Reception.
Can I look at the units before I rent?
Yes. Just call in and our team will be happy to give you a guided tour.
If I decide to rent a unit how much notice do I need to give you?
None. You can choose to rent immediately or reserve a unit for £20.
What paperwork is required - and do I need legal advice?
We do ask that you complete a simple licence agreement and declaration with our branch manager. But you won’t need a solicitor.
What does it cost to obtain access to my effects?
Nothing. You can access your goods as often as you like, with nothing extra to pay. Our branches are open seven days per week – 8am – 6pm from Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm on Saturday and 10am-2pm on a Sunday.
Do you undertake removals?
We work closely with local removal company, Maidman's, and can get discounts with them for you. Click here to find out more.
Do you provide packing materials?
Yes. We offer a wide range of packing materials – you can buy them from our branch reception.
What about my hanging clothes?
We can provide portable hanging wardrobes, just transfer your clothes from your wardrobe onto the rails of the portable wardrobe; usually two portable rails will be sufficient for one single wardrobe.
What’s the minimum rental period?
You can rent your unit from two weeks to as long as you like. All we ask is two weeks’ notice when you want to move your items out of storage.
What if I have heavy or bulky items?
We provide a range of pallet trucks, trolleys and even a fork lift truck - all provided free of charge.
I have a delivery or collection. Do I have to be there for it?
No. Just let us know you’re expecting a delivery and we’ll receive it for you. We’ll even lock your delivery into your unit for you – if you give us permission and you have a key on file.
Is there anything I can’t store?
You can’t store any illegal items, inflammable or perishable goods. If you’re storing anything that needs fuel, you must drain it before putting it into storage.
Are there parking facilities?
Yes. Our storage centres have free parking spaces outside for your convenience.
Do I have to extend my household insurance cover?
We can provide insurance cover for your goods with a minimum value of £2000.
Do I have to pay any additional costs?
All you have to pay is the monthly unit rental and insurance. You won’t have to pay electricity, rates or a service charge.
I have a business with too much stock. Can you help?
We can provide units of all sizes to meet your requirements. You can even change the size of unit, should your needs change.
What if I experience a problem?
Our staff are there to help. If you have any problems, please don’t hesitate to speak to our branch manager.
How can I pay?
We have a number of payment options. We take all major credit/debit cards either in person or over the telephone, as well as cash, cheques or standing order payments. You can complete a standing order form at the same time as your licence agreement.
Can I take warehouse space and an office too?
No problem. We have a range of larger sized units and also office space. We can also offer you a fax and photocopying service - and even a mailbox if you need one.
What is the best way to use my space?
It’s better to put the items you may need close to the front. Use good quality cartons of the same size - you can buy them at Reception. Fill but don’t overload these so they’re not too heavy to lift, and stack the lighter boxes on top of the heavier ones. Remember you can fill space inside wardrobes with smaller items. Finally, make an inventory of your boxes and mark breakables as “FRAGILE”.
What‘s the best way to pack my breakables?
It’s best to wrap them individually. Plates are best stored on edge and not flat. Cups and bowls can be wrapped and placed inside each other. You can buy packing paper and bubble wrap from our Reception. Remember to use good quality cartons – which are also available at Reception.
