A storage business in Poole has had its cyber protection certification renewed following a thorough examination of its protections and procedures.

Store & Secure says data security is becoming as important to its customers as physical security.

Based in Hamworthy, the business said major hacks of well-known brands such as M&S and Waitrose has focused minds.

It has now had Cyber Essentials certification renewed through its ‘security managed partnership’ with leading cyber-security company C3IA.

‘Storage Sisters’ Lucy and Sophie Maidman who run the business, said: “Because we are a storage firm our cyber protections haven’t really been an issue for customers.

“They have obviously been more worried about physical security, locks and the size of unit required – then allowed us to input their details without comment.

“However, this year after so many big names were hacked and people were actually affected by them we have seen an uptick in customers asking about information assurance.

“They are then very reassured when we tell them about how seriously we have always taken it.

“Cyber Essentials is the minimum recommended standard protection for a business and we work with a specialist company to ensure we are as secure as we can be.

“We make sure our staff are trained in data security because the weakest part of any protection are the people.

“And having a good foundation in information assurance means when we expand we will be better placed to carry it forward to new sites.

“Cyber-security is of growing concern to more people and this is a developing trend in our sector.”
